The Lift

I got into my usual lift to the top floor, wiping my shoes on the side of the door before anyone noticed. Then I looked up and I saw the most beautiful dark haired girl I had seen for time. I just raised my eyebrows at her and walked past her to stand by the back of the lift, so I could get a good look at her from behind.

She stood tall, in high heels, with a white long coat on and her ankles crossed at the bottom. She held a cup of Moca Choca Chino or whatever those fancy coffee shops sell for a fiver.

All class she seemed and I wouldn't mind getting to know a bit of it to be honest. The lift started as I pressed the button for the top floor, noticing that she had already pressed the button for the floor beneath me. I had never seen her before, maybe she was new in the company below me, maybe I would get to meet her in the coffee shop on her floor that we both used at break time. The thoughts of how I could break the silence and get to talk to her crossed my mind and then were instantly crossed out with a thick black marker pen as I didn't have the bottle to say them.

Then as suddenly as I thought about just asking her if she was new here, the lift stopped, it was not on any floor and the siren started going off. We had broken down. Maybe I would have a chance to speak to her now.

“Oh no!”, she exclaimed, and she turned to me with a look of horror on her face.

“Don't worry” I replied, “they will soon sort this out, they know the buzzer is beeping and we are stuck it shouldn’t be too long”.

“I hope not, it's my first day” she replied. “Oh really, where at”, “Access Computing”, “Oh the floor below mine that's on, it's quite nice there.” I smiled at her hoping to calm her down as I could see some form of dread on her face due to the lift being stuck.

I tried to calm her down some more. “So do you know one at the company?” I asked.

“Just one person, they helped me get the job actually” she replied. It was then I noticed her immaculate finger nails, painted purple holding her cup of coffee, she had class written all over her, with a gold necklace that must have cost a fortune. She was totally out of my league, but then I suppose teams get promoted every year.

The lift suddenly started again and I was eager to get her name before we were rescued.

“What's your name by the way” I asked.

“Karren” She replied, “I'm Ben”, “If you ever see me again, say hello won't you”

“OK I will”, she replied just as the lift stops and the doors open. Karren turns and runs out all happy to have escaped the stuck lift, ignoring the guards who had fixed the problem, and into the arms of a well suited, groomed to the teeth man, expensive looking man.

It must be her boyfriend or some bloke trying to get into her, I thought to myself, as I sank to the back of the lift. So gutting. She was so perfect and now I knew who it was who had probably helped her get her job.

He was probably the boss of the company, the Rolex he was wearing gave it away. Rich whatever. No wonder she got the job, he just wanted some nice totty to be around him no doubt.

As the lift doors slowly close, all I see is the two kiss each other and all my hopes were dashed as I moved upwards slowly to the next floor.
